The ABA TECHSHOW is six short days away and we at Smokeball (booth #109!) are hard at work preparing. If you’re coming this year, we have a few last minute tips to help you to make the most of your time.

Do Your Research

Over 100 exhibitors will be in attendance at this year’s TECHSHOW, and they’re bringing a whole lot more than free tchotchkes. Instead of racing through the EXPO Hall in an effort to visit each and every booth, get ahead of the game by doing some research and building your own list of must-visit companies. Then, plot them all on the map you’ll receive when you register and decide on the order in which you’ll visit each booth. Heads up: the EXPO is free and open to all, not just TECHSHOW conference attendees. Get your pass here.

Get the Facts

While doing your research will help you narrow down a list of companies that are best suited to your firm’s needs, you should be prepared to answer some specific questions when you visit each booth to make sure you get valuable information from the exhibitors. Questions about things like staff size, budgetary considerations and timelines for making new software investments will come up again and again, so make sure you have your facts straight. This is your time to get one-on-one attention from the top legal tech companies across the country, and having key information on hand will help you make the most of your conversations.

Bring Business Cards

ABA TECHSHOW presents countless opportunities to meet lawyers and legal tech professionals alike, and you don’t want to be caught empty handed. Business cards are a great way to make lasting connections with the people you meet, and they might even help you win free perks from exhibitors at the EXPO. Come prepared with a big stack of business cards and make sure to leave them behind at all the booths you visit.

Take Notes

TECHSHOW can quickly become overwhelming, especially if you spend a large portion of your time visiting the booths at the EXPO. After talking to countless companies, many offerings will start to blur together. After you visit each booth, write down a few key points about each vendor you’re interested in to relay back to your firm. Do the same for each session and keynote you attend. Summarizing key TECHSHOW takeaways will be so much easier with clear notes on hand.

The ABA TECHSHOW is shaping up to be the legal tech event of the year, and we’re so excited to meet you all at our lunch and learn at 11:30 on Friday!
