Law firms lose an estimated 15–30% of daily billable revenue, not to bad clients or inefficient processes, but to time that was worked and never captured, or captured and quietly cut before anyone saw it. The same blind spots that erode realization rates often create trust accounting exposure: misapplied funds, delayed disbursements, and recordkeeping gaps that put firms at compliance risk.
This session led by attorney Jordan Turk gives legal professionals the vocabulary, frameworks, and practical tools to identify ethical issues, quantify the true cost of billing loss, and address both, starting the next business day, with no software changes or budget approval required.
Key Takeaways:
Explore the ethical issues that result in the most grievances and sanctions filed against attorneys when it comes to billing and trust accounting (and how to avoid them)
Quantify the true cost of billing loss, including realization-rate erosion, write-offs, and revenue leakage, and recognize how the same behaviors create trust accounting compliance risks
Identify the psychological root causes of underbilling and explain why standard fixes (e.g., billing software, reminders, firm mandates) consistently fail to resolve them
Implement five zero-cost actions immediately to shift billing behavior, strengthen trust accounting hygiene, and protect both revenue and compliance
