MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — March 4, 2025 — Smokeball, the industry-leading legal practice management software platform, announces its free product partnership with the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) the voluntary bar association serving over 13,000 attorneys across Minnesota. Through this collaboration, all MSBA members gain complimentary access to Smokeball Bill, a complete billing and trust accounting solution built to help solo and small-firm legal professionals manage client trust accounts effectively and securely.

Minnesota attorneys are essential to their communities. In addition to practicing law and providing legal guidance, they also manage client funds — a critical responsibility that demands strict compliance with regulatory standards. Solo and small firms frequently depend on manual methods, increasing the risk of errors. Smokeball Bill offers MSBA members an intuitive software solution to simplify trust accounting and help ensure compliance. Access to Smokeball Bill is just one of many practice resources and benefits included with an attorney’s annual MSBA membership.

“Attorneys turn to the bar association for the latest information, programs, and tools that help them practice law effectively and serve their clients and communities,” said Cheryl Dalby, CEO of MSBA. “This partnership provides our members with free access to Smokeball Bill to enhance compliant trust accounting practices and reduce reliance on time-consuming manual processes.”

For Minnesota attorneys, trust accounting compliance is only part of the equation. The 2023 State of U.S. Small Law Firms Report identifies case management, legal research, and e-billing/invoicing as top technology needs for law firms. Smokeball Bill also helps meet these demands by streamlining the process of sending and collecting invoices.

“Every firm, regardless of size or resources, deserves access to efficient and compliant trust account management,” said Jane Oxley, CRO and co-founder of Smokeball. “By equipping small law firms with advanced technology, we’re helping them prioritize service to their communities, which, in turn, increases access to justice for all.”

The MSBA announcement marks Smokeball’s 11th free product partnership with a state bar association, following its latest partnerships with the D.C. Bar, New York State Bar Association, California Lawyers Association, and the State Bar of Texas.
