Jonathan Kibler is an everyman’s lawyer and the managing member of a small general practice in rural Illinois. A lifelong technology enthusiast who grew up typing MS-DOS commands before choosing law over IT, he brings a highly practical perspective to legal tech. After earning his J.D. from SIU Carbondale in 2012, he began his career as an associate in his family's practice where he built a custom accounting solution still actively used today.
Today, he balances a demanding caseload with managing firm finances and IT. A Smokeball user since 2020, he routinely integrates AI tools like Gemini, Westlaw, and Archie into his daily workflow. As an everyday practitioner, Jonathan offers straightforward insight to help fellow attorneys leverage technology like Archie to speed up workflows, serve more clients, and reduce unpaid hours.

Huma Rashid is a Chicago-based lawyer who made the pivot to legal tech. A former Smokeball client, Huma practiced criminal defense in IL and the Midwest for 8 years, handling complex misdemeanors, felonies, federal cases, and appeals before the Seventh Circuit. She then moved on to federal clemencies, securing the freedom of 8 indigent federal prisoners serving 30 years to Life. When the US withdrew from Afghanistan, Huma began her work in international diplomacy, helping to locate, evacuate, and resettle Afghan female judges and their families who had been living in crawlspaces following the Taliban regaining control of the country. She helped targeted populations like Afghan military mechanics and interpreters, female athletes, disability and women’s rights activists, and girls identified as imminent child brides to Taliban officials.
During all of this, she lamented that her shoestring case management software system was nowhere near as robust as the Smokeball she once used, so she’s back again to help more lawyers use this product to increase the impact of their legal work.
